Ted does All Saints

Wierd day, wierd week

30 04 2009

Got a fair amount done at work, Ted was fine at nursery all day although apparently some of his nappies were abit ’special’ but anti biotics can have that effect. His temperature is still up (in the 37’s) but no fever and he is eating better (full punnet of blueberries for breakfast as well as his oatabix) and was in fair spirits, although clingy whenw e got home and at bedtime. He has settled well this evening though and its all be quiet.

Ry is out for an event so I did my Wii – had to make up for the fact I had a curry (albeit a fish on) last night as on Tuesday I finally managed to break my plateau of a 7 pound loss which I have been stuck at for weeks and get to a further pound off. I thought tonight I would have gone up again but my frugal day today (fruit for breakfast, salad for lunch and a sushi snack this afternoon) has clearly paid off as I have managed to keep the pound off despite the curry.

I have been doing some admin and sorting out various things at home which have backed up – I always get less done when T is porly because he is more demanding and I am more tired…. but we are in good shape to enjoy the weekend – although we will be skipping our swim on Saturday on account of the fact T is pulling at his ear saying ’sore’ – and it is red enough it looks sore – sometimes saying sore is a trick to get lots of Mummy cuddles or to try and stop Mummy leaving the room at bedtime (smart kid).

I have managed to render the video but am working on adding the soundtrack so will post this and get on with that and just maybe I will manage to figure out how to do it!! I’m no dan light in the movie editing stakes just yet :)

Patient report

30 04 2009

Slept better, looked brighter, went to nursery like a trooper. May still be the pox as symptoms can fluctuate over 10 – 15 days ahead of rash, but will wait and see. Had good time with Daddy yesterday from pickup through to bedtime and its all Mummy again tonight as its Daddys turn to go out for a work function!!! In office today catching up on backlog. Hoping to update some weekend video of our man dancing to All Saints ‘Black Coffee’  on my iPod this evening!!

Waiting with bated breath

28 04 2009

For the first sign of spots!! There are chicken pox everywhere and I am beginning to wonder if Ted has it as he has all the pre rash symptoms … itchy, complaining of sore back and head, irritable, fever, loss of appetite and the anti biotics not seeming to have an effect athough I am reluctant to stop giving them just in case its jst that they are taking longer to kick in than normal. He has a really runny nose and even has fluid running out of his eyes at some points which apparently is a sign of the pox. I would think he had an allergy with the symptoms if he didn’t have the fever.

Still he was ok today after a shocker last night. After all my good intentions I had him in with me in the spare room before midnight!! At several points he woke and was inconsolable and acting as if he was possessed by the devil rolling on the floor, lashing out and wailing. He would not be held or comforted it was horrible! Settled in the end though and today we had an ok day – ups and downs but in the main he was doing fine and Ry thought he looked much better when he got home. Since going to be though he is being disturbed by his cough and is showing signs of having another bad night. If needs be he can have another night in with me but we’ll see – he is not seeming quite so feverish.

Ry and I are pretty sure he will be home again tomorrow – Ry is taking the baton for nursing him tomorrow as I have a team meeting presentation to make and a dinner. If needs be I can reschedule Thursday and Friday and with the bank holiday weekend Ted should be better by the end. It would almost be a good thing if he did have chicken pox because with the longweekend it would be past the banned from nursery point by Tuesday!

Day was spent keeping him busy and doing some minor chores. Am about to go to bed because I know its going to be a long night! Ry is going to work late on the basis he knows he will get little opportunity tomorrow. God knows how we will manage if /when we have another! Think it will be time for a nanny.

Poorly boy

27 04 2009

Poor T is really unwell, started on the weekend as a temperature and a runny nose, seemed to be stable as a cold and occasional temperature through Sunday and last night and he was well enough to go to nursery today – although temperature was back by 330pm. However now we are dealing with a fully blown fever and night sweats and the doctor thinks an ear infection for which we have antibiotics although she suspects it may be viral. 24 hours will tell us whether its bacterial as he will be feeling better and not need analgesics to manage his temperature. If not its a virus and will have to run its course. Wild card is that it could be pre chicken pox symptoms as theres ‘alot of it about’ according to the doctor and Ellie who T swims with and who we saw on Saturday now has it. We will see.

Bad news is that despite the full 10ml dose of Mediced at 7 which should have knocked him out for a good 6 hours his nose is so snuffly that he woke at 830 and 930 and was even satisfied with water in his boke as he was so thirsty. Water in a boke would ordinarily be a totally unacceptable scenario!! I will give him a second dose of anti b and a dose of calprofen when I go to bed in half an hour and if he is waking alot I will make up a bed on the floor in his room. I have already removed all blankets and covered him with a light sheet. If he stays really hot I will strip him off to a vest and nappy and see how we go. I could just bite the bullet and have him in the spare room but the duvet would be too hot for him and even though he is poorly it sets an unholy precedent which I am reluctant to do. Sorry – just thinking aloud. Maybe the Calprofen will help – he seems to respond better to Ibuprofen medicine than Paracetomol – seems to have stronger and longer lasting effect. Hopefully we will see improvements in the morning – will be sure and make update post or twitter in the a.m. Day at home for us both tomorrow at least and possibly Wednesday too although Ry has offered to cover Weds as I have a team meeting offsite all day at which I am suposed to be sharing my plans for second quarter!

I have some more vids to post tomorrow, meantime here are a couple of pics of Ry and T from the weekend. Haircut in Henley after lunch with Zana and Patrick and tree climbing walk after our barbeque lunch on Sunday

Recap

22 04 2009

Friday night Ry and I went out for dinner sans T as GW was here to mind the baby!! She arrived in time for T to understand Mommy was going out and Garry would be taking care of bath, story, bed, boke and any other demands. There was absolutely no fuss when I left – it was clear he knew who needed sucking up to to eek out a few extra minutes downstairs and an extra story before bed.

Ry met me at the car park and we wandered to All Bar One to meet up with Cliff and Antia and Dave and Vigi. We haven’t see Dave very much since his work in Pakistan started – in fact the last time I saw him was when T was only 6 months or so, so it was really good to see him and hear all about his new life. What a change. Difficult for Vigi to have him be away so much of the time and in less than secure locale but she handles it brilliantly. They are definitely a good match and she is lovely. Also good to spend grown up time with C and A what with them moving to Sheffield for a year with Cliffs contract, we will miss them too. Dinner was at the ape Town Fish Restaurant in Oxford Circus. It was wonderful. Great menu with Japanese food being the main options. Bento boxes, sushi and wonderful seafood we had a great dinner and a few bottles of wine. I am now enjoying a few glasses with meals – since France I seem to be reaquainting myself with a taste for both red and white which is great. Home late and I knew I would suffer for it in the morning, and I did.

Saturday GW had a Conch Soc (or as Ry and Mark call it a Shell Club!!) meeting in the Natural History Museum so she was off early. No swimming for Mr T so we had a lazy morning until R got up and then called Antia to see what time we would meet them at Bocketts Farm later in the day. We drove down around 1230 and got there for 1 to meet C and A and Nathan. What a great place, although there are lots of animals to look at the main attraction has to be the many and varied play areas, sandpits, slides, bouncing areas, swings and so on. Ted was in his element and R and I are thinking a day off and familypicnic there for his actual birthday would be wonderful. When you see the gallery you will know why. We stayed most of the day and only headed back when Nathan was on his last legs. Nathan is wonderful and full of beans and smiles and it was so much fun to see the boys playing together properly.

Sunday we had a lazy day at home until the afternoon and then it was out to Archers 3rd Birthday at Piglets playcentre in Hersham. It is somewhat of an annual event and Ted had a great time in the soft play area where there was a slide – slides and bicycles are the best things in the world as far as he is concerned at the moment. Rach from work was also there with her girls so we sat outside, had a glass of bubbly and chatted while the kids ran around. Home not too late and bed early and Ted slept through – for the first time in ages.

So far this week work has been good – mostly because i have been busy and had some hard deadlines – which I need to get anything productive done. A trip to Brighton on Tuesday for a long session on getting various processes to work better in sync and a big presentation today to the Exec Team have focussed the mind and helped me prioritise which has felt better than drifting which is what I had been doing for a few weeks before. Now with various approvals achieved I have a whole raft of improvements approved to implement so it looks like the next few weeks will also be busy. This weekend we are seeing Zana and Patrick and also sorting out a grown up bed for Mr T so theres lots to look forward to. Swimming starts a new term as well, and I have Friday to myself – seeing Bex for a manicure and then taking a few hours to do some shopping for myself I think.

Anyway here are the Bockets Farm photos – total winner for kids!!

What happened to time

19 04 2009

Its just going by so fast! I last updated a week ago when we were in France – which seems like ages ago already and now its almost the start of another week. Its also nearly 1030pm which is bed time so I have little time for a long post but will try for a filler until I can do detailed coverage of the weekend – which has been a corker.

Last week went quickly – 4 day weeks always do, but we had a lovely day Monday in France – the weather was wonderful so time in the garden, and finishing up food. I also got Teds next 4 pairs of shoes as they are such good value there (even with the pound where it is), 4 decent pairs for £45 – when a single decent pair costs a minimum of £20 in the UK means I have sandels and shoes for summer and maybe autumn as his feet do not seem to be growing super fast. Ferry back was as you would expect totally rammed – so much so we couldn’t get seats together, but it was ok and not as bumpy as the outward so we made it through and back to the UK and home without event.

Ted settled back into sleeping reasonably well, he is waking a couple of times a night sometimes demanding a boke (bottle of milk) but he is going back to sleep ok – even at 530am for another hour so we are doing ok and once he has his bed we will try weaning off the ‘boke’ as we are not planning a holiday anytime soon.

Work has been ok, I have big deadlines loming the middle of this week so I had to try and knuckle down towards the end of the week and I am not 100% confident I have sufficient time between now and Wednesday to sort out my two presentations for the exec team so I may have to do a little work in the evenings. Anyway – work is going well and I am feeling rpetty good about it at the moment which makes a pleasant change

Summary of the weekend …. Friday night GW babysat and R and I had a grown up night out having dinner with Dave and Vigi (his fiance) and Cliff and Antia at a wonderful Japanese restaurant oddly named the Cape Town Fish Market. Saturday we met up with C and A again with the boys to go to Bocketts Farm near Leatherhead which is such a find and definitely somewhere we will want to take Aiden when he comes over with Granny P and Aunty B. Today we had a chores day with a kids party at Piglets in Hersham thrown in for good measure. Have some wonderful pics from Saturday and more to say about it all but its 1033 and I must go to bed! (Will try and get them up by midweek)
